iPhone (NFC) 5, Mobile Payments on the Run

Forbes published an interesting post yesterday about the coming tsunami of NFC smartphones and contactless payments. The author, Bruce Upbin mentioned the Apple Golden Touch and how, more often than not, when they release a product or get behind a technology it flourishes. Those of us in the mobile payments and mCommerce space are waiting for the iPhone 5 announcement hoping that it will include NFC technology. Many speculate that it will. But we all know how Apple works, they develop or endorse technologies that not only benefit the general public but also benefit themselves. So what’s the benefit for Apple to include NFC in their next iPhone you ask?

BART: Transportation’s NFC Visionary

Using NFC to get from here to there

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie last week proudly announced that NJ TRANSIT is the first public transportation agency to partner with Google Wallet, Google’s recently released contactless payment system that uses ViVOtech’s Near Field Communication (NFC) one-touch technology.

Given our work nearly four years ago in San Francisco with BART – Bay Area Rapid Transit – we have to believe that it, and other transportation services across the country, will be joining the Google Wallet mCommerce revolution much sooner than later, so just like in New Jersey, their riders can have the option to use their phones to tap and pay for transportation tickets – plus much, much more.
