US Mobile phone contactless trial declared a success

The very small scale pilot in Atlanta using payment enabled by Near Field Communication using a mobile phone has been declared a success. The trial recruited 150 Season Ticket Holders to the Philips Arena. Trialists were able to pay for items around the stadium and for digital downloads relating to the home team using the technology.

Atlanta Spirit, Chase, Cingular, Nokia, NXP, Visa USA and ViVOtech were the participant companies. Trialists had to have a Chase issued Visa credit card and a Cingular Mobile contract to take part. Nokia issued Nokia 3220 phone which have the Near Field Communication chip.
